Summary

Hephaestus is a manual can-opener concept developed through product teardown, user observations, mechanical redesign and CAD.

Problem

Observing a conventional can opener revealed awkward hand changes and crossed-arm use, particularly for left-handed users.

Solution

I developed a concept intended for either hand, with vertically arranged cutting wheels, a trigger-operated clamp and shaped finger grips. The design separates clamping from turning and explores how the parts could be manufactured and assembled.
